A native of New Zealand, this lily prefers moist, well drained soils in an open, sunny position. However, it will perform equally in poor, dry soils, and flower in sun or shade positions. It is frost and drought tolerant.

A perennial plant, it grows to a height of 70 to100 cm (27 – 39in) and a spread of 1.3 metres (4ft). It has fleshy, mid green leaves 60 cm long and masses of star-shaped, scented, white flowers in terminal heads in November (southern hemisphere).

This plant readily grows from seed, is virtually maintenance free and will suppress weed growth.
